Finder Shortcuts
Years of Mac use taught me that Command+N would create a new folder in Finder. This held true until OS X came along and changed that shortcut to opening a Finder window to my user folder. Creating a new folder in this operating system required Command+Shift+N.
Perhaps my usage is atypical when compared to a Mac-neophyte, but I create new folders a whole lot more frequently than I need to...
Dock Settings
I find the Dock interferes least when it’s on the right side of the screen. I also prefer the Trash to occupy the bottom right corner. It’s a product of my classic Mac upbringing. The following command lines will position the Dock accordingly.
defaults write com.apple.dock orientation right
defaults write com.apple.dock pinning end
osascript -e 'quit application...
